Ingredients:
4 cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp instant dry yeast
4 tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
2 cups lukewarm water (adjust as needed)
2 tbsp vegetable oil (for dough)
Oil (for deep frying)
Instructions:
- Prepare the dough
In a large bowl, mix flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.
Gradually add lukewarm water while mixing until you form a soft dough.
Add 2 tbsp vegetable oil and knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- First rise
Cover the bowl with a cloth or plastic wrap.
Let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
- Shape the magwinya
Punch down the dough to release air.
Divide into equal portions and roll into smooth balls.
- Second rise (optional but makes them fluffier)
Let shaped dough balls rest for about 15–20 minutes.
- Fry
Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat.
Carefully drop the dough balls into hot oil.
Fry until golden brown, turning often so they cook evenly.
- Serve
Remove and drain on paper towels.
Serve plain, with jam, syrup, mince, or cheese.
