Ingredients
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
2 cups of all-purpose flour
1/2 cup of granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1 cup of cold unsalted butter, cubed
6 cups of peeled and thinly sliced apples (approximately 5-6 medium apples)
1/2 cup of granulated sugar
2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
1 tablespoon of lemon juice
Preparation
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, 1/2 cup of sugar, and salt. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
In a small bowl, beat 1 egg and vanilla extract, then add to the flour mixture. Stir until the dough forms.
Press two-thirds of the dough into the bottom of the prepared baking pan to form the crust.
In another bowl, mix together the sliced apples, 1/2 cup of sugar, 2 tablespoons of flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice until evenly coated.
Spread the apple mixture over the crust in the baking pan.
Crumble the remaining dough evenly over the top of the apple layer.
Beat the remaining egg and brush it over the crumbled dough.
Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the apples are tender.
