Ingredients (4 servings)

  • 8 slices thick sandwich bread
  • 8 slices cheddar or processed cheese
  • 150 g salami or pepperoni, diced
  • 1½ cups (150 g) mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 2 tbsp parsley, chopped
  • 2 tbsp butter

Cream Sauce

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1½ cups (360 ml) milk
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Make the sauce
    • Melt 2 tbsp butter in a saucepan.
    • Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute.
    • Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth.
    • Cook until thickened.
    • Season with salt and pepper.
  2. Prepare the bread
    • Butter one side of each bread slice.
    • Lightly toast or pan-fry until golden.
  3. Assemble
    • Place a slice of cheese on 4 bread slices.
    • Add salami or pepperoni.
    • Top with another slice of cheese.
    • Cover with the remaining bread slices.
  4. Add toppings
    • Spread the cream sauce over each sandwich.
    • Sprinkle diced salami and parsley on top.
    • Cover generously with shredded mozzarella.
  5. Bake
    • Place on a baking tray.
    • Bake at 200°C (400°F) for 10–15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and golden.
  6. Serve
    • Let cool for 2 minutes and serve hot.
