Ingredients (4 servings)
- 8 slices thick sandwich bread
- 8 slices cheddar or processed cheese
- 150 g salami or pepperoni, diced
- 1½ cups (150 g) mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 2 tbsp parsley, chopped
- 2 tbsp butter
Cream Sauce
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1½ cups (360 ml) milk
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Make the sauce
- Melt 2 tbsp butter in a saucepan.
- Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute.
- Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth.
- Cook until thickened.
- Season with salt and pepper.
- Prepare the bread
- Butter one side of each bread slice.
- Lightly toast or pan-fry until golden.
- Assemble
- Place a slice of cheese on 4 bread slices.
- Add salami or pepperoni.
- Top with another slice of cheese.
- Cover with the remaining bread slices.
- Add toppings
- Spread the cream sauce over each sandwich.
- Sprinkle diced salami and parsley on top.
- Cover generously with shredded mozzarella.
- Bake
- Place on a baking tray.
- Bake at 200°C (400°F) for 10–15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and golden.
- Serve
- Let cool for 2 minutes and serve hot.
